  • Summary Description

    Thecacera pennigera is a small sea slug that may grow to a length of 30 mm. The body tapers posteriorly to a long foot and is translucent white in colour with tiny orange, yellow and black spots. It has a blunt/broad head with 2 pointed lateral extensions. The rhinophores are contained within flared rhinophore sheaths, which is a key diagnostic feature. The gills are arranged in the shape of a horse-shoe and behind them are 2 glandular processes. The rhinophore sheaths and gills are also covered in orange and black spots. The postbranchial processes have shiny, granulated white tips with a golden stripe and black spots beneath.
