  • Summary Description

Mnemiopsis leidyi is a species of comb-jelly (Ctenophora). It is a purely marine, free-swimming animal with a jelly-like walnut-shaped body. Its maximum length is 100-120 mm. M. leidyi is almost colourless with a milky translucent hue. It has four rows of ciliated combs running along the body which are brilliantly iridescent by day and glow green when disturbed at night. Feeding tentacles are numerous, however the two longest and main tentacles are positioned at either side of the mouth canal.
